HAPPY NEW YEAR, WELCOME TO 2019!

Let's start our new year off with a super dooper cute tutu!  You know one day I may surprise you all and have a photo of me wearing one. That would mean I'd have to make one, but stranger things have happened in Wirgie's world ;-)

I've chosen this gorgeous witchy Tutu coz hmm, I thinking I may need to make one. Our son and DIL to be's engagement party is in less than 3 weeks and it's a haunted theme.  I have my witch's hat and this popped up the other day and I thought "Oh yes, I could try and make that"  note I said 'try'.  we shall see.

I hope you've all had a memorable and happy Christmas and New Year.  We spent much time with my side of the family. My brother and his adult kids were visiting from South Australia so that is a massive bonus. My brother's still in Sydney so we are catching up again for tea this week too.

So what have I come up with to show you how to make this week?  Well I know Christmas is over but you know Valentine's day is not that far away.  I was going through some of the videos I've saved over the years and came across this little bag/box. I thought what a great way to use up 6"x6" patterned papers.  Perfect for the "Love it, Chop it" facebook group I'm a member off too.  Got too much patterned paper?  6x6's are always a little more challenging to use up that 12x12" sheets I feel. So this may be something you may like.  It can hold quite a bit, gift cards, jewellery. The finished bag measures approximately 3 3/4" wide, 2" deep and 2 3/4" tall.

Please note:  This is not my original idea. I've no idea who's video it was, there were no credits or names on it. I do know it's about a year old coz I looked at the details of the file from when I saved it.   So I've made photo instructions.  This is one creation I feel can be seen better through photos rather than video. I know I kept replaying parts of the video to try and see it properly.  I hope you like it.  Use up that paper and those ribbons, ready to purchase more with the new Occasions catalogue that goes live on Thursday morning, 3rd January 2019!

So firstly, here is my template.  You will need 2 pieces of double sided patterned paper. Both will have the same fold, scoring and cut marks.

I am working in inches for this project because the paper pads that size are the exact size already.  You can cut down 12x12, which means you'll get 2 boxes per sheet.

  • Step one:  If you have a Simply Scored scoring board, making this will be so much easier.  I've firstly scored at 2" then 5 3/5",

  • Step two:  turned the piece once anti-clockwise.  Scored at 1" and 4" then where the first score line is, start from that point and score at 1/2" down to the 2nd score line.

  • Step three: Turn back clockwise once, score at 1/2" down to the first score line, then at 1 1/2" down to the first score line.  Next you will need a ruler and your stylus. You will need to measure from those two score lines you've just done 3/4" down diagonally.  See the dotted lines in the diagram?

  • Step four:  fold and burnish with a bone folder all the scored parts

  • Step five:  cut out notches and pieces as per the diagram above

  • redsample2

  • Step six: glue the two pieces together using tear & tape (you can use liquid glue but the tape is faster

  • redsample3

  • Don't forget to cut the notches in the folded down little flaps, 3/4" downwards, this is where you slot the top folded down pieces to keep it closed.

  • Step seven: Optional if you want to put in little ribbon handles, punch the holes as per the diagram now before you glue the two sides together. Also cut that notch in the folded down tab first before joining, it will be a lot easier, ask me how I know that!

  • Step eight: fold up the base but do not glue it yet.  This will help you fold down the top to get that curve in it and be able to slot the pieces into the cut notches

  • redsample4

At this stage, if you wanted to send this to someone flat packed you just flatten it. This is also good if you are giving a few out but don't have much packing space. You can use tear & tape on the bases so it's easy to glue them when you arrive and open them out and slot the curved over tops into place in the notches.

Once all this is done your tops should stay inside their notches easily, depending on what kind of patterned paper you've used.  If it's a thinner sheet, you may need to use ribbon like I've done on my  blue & white one and peachy coloured ones.  The Soft Suede one didn't need it as it was thicker paper.   Decorate as you want.  What I've used is listed below in my product listing.   Below are finished items, all products if current or coming soon are listed below. The red patterned paper I used in my sample was from Valentine's day a few years ago.  I fluked it and got all the hearts going in the right direction LOL.

Also using double sided patterned papers gives the insides a pretty look as well.  I hope you found these steps easy to follow, do hover your mouse over the templates and right click save them so you can print a visual for reference.

Can I please ask that if you use them, please give credit back to me.  These projects took quite a few hours of trial and error to get correct.  Thanks everyone and remember, til next time,

happy stamping colouring & creating!
