Tutu Tuesday Tutorial, 27th Nov2018

TutuTuesdayNewHeader3Nov2018

G'day everyone, welcome back to another Tutu Tuesday Tutorial.

How cute is this little Tutu!!!

Now today, I'm cheating a little bit because I spent the best part of a whole day trying to make a card like this but converting it to Australian measurements ie metric.

This youtube tutorial is the one that I found thanks to a lovely fellow demonstrator, Elizabeth Hyatt, who gave me one of these cards at the recent OnStage event in Melbourne.  Elizabeth credited her inspiration to 'stampintexas' so that's what I searched for and found!   Yes, Michelle Lark, I persisted and made one LOL.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rln8IKiADL8

Below my photos I have listed Australian measurements for the one I made. You will also see that the Australian one is slightly taller than the one 'stampintexas' has made.

I have not listed supplies used because as I had never made one of these before I used nearly all retired card stock and patterned paper.  I did however use a sentiment from a new stamp set coming in the Occasions catalogue, called Happiness Surrounds, it's a beautiful stamp set, you wait and see!   I did use Basic Black and Whisper White card stocks along with the Framelits die set called Stitched Shapes.

  • Base card tri-folded 21cm x 14.9cm, core at 5.25cm flip and score again at 5.25cm, use a bone folder to get crisp folds

  • Front panels, two of each 14cm x 4.5 plain card stock, 13.5cm x 4cm patterned paper

  • Inside centre panel White base - 15cm x 7.5cm, coloured layer 14.5cm x 7cm & patterned paper layer 14cm x 6.5cm

  • Circle cut out is 2nd largest circle from the Stitched Shapes framelits Note, run it through a few times so you get all three layers cut.

  • Pennant pieces x 2 for shutters 11xm x 7cm, score both pieces on one end at 1cm, measure in from each folded end 4cm then cut from other end's corners to that centre dot to make pennants.  Do not snip off the points of the pennants until you have checked they are correct inside the card.  Some needs to be snipped off so it folds properly.

NOTE: If you follow the youtube video you will see how this card goes together.  I think I'll make another to see how long it takes now I've got my measurements noted.    I hope you like this. Honestly, it isn't a card for make to beginners, there is a bit of measuring and you need to get the tri-fold correct and the pennants in the right position so you can see the sentiment inside.  In hindsight I'd stamp the base card with my sentiment rather than try and slot it in afterwards.  Plus I'd use the same colour card stock as the base card for the shutter pieces as well.

Til next time,

happy stamping, colouring and creating!

M.A.M.=Mondays are Marvelous!

MondaysAreMarvelousHeader1

Hello everyone!

Remember a while back I was talking about Colour Blocking and matching colours?

No? Well not to worry, today I'm going to talk about a little tool that many artists use and you can pick one up at most good art supply stores.  It's called the colour wheel.  Plus how you can make your own Colour Coach like Stampin' Up! use to have. The Colour Coach, sadly it isn't sold anymore. However, I still have mine and each year when the five new In Colours are released, I add to my Colour Coach.  It's really really handy that's for sure.  What I do is cut Whisper White card stock down to the same size as my Colour Coach swatches, punch a whole in one corner and add it to the larger hinged ring I've put mine on.  If you want to keep your version of the colour coach the same as the original Stampin' Up! one, you can get 6 cards cut from one A4 sheet of whisper white card stock.

This is my little colour wheel, it is about 20+ years old now....

[gallery ids="945,944" type="rectangular"]

Hint:  I note what the colour is and which year they are current. I've done this for 4 years now and earlier this year I also included the returning colours too!  You will get 6 cards cut the same size as the colour coach from an A4 sheets, this gives you one extra to note the Date/Year those In Colours are release. I also us a small stamp to stamp each colour. See my samples below.

Many people have asked me how I match up my colours.  To be honest I don't really know, I just do it.  There's an old saying "Blue and green should never be seen unless there's something in between. It rhymes, so it must be true—right? Wrong.  Blue and green can be absolutely gorgeous together.  So if you are not confident putting colours together, why don't you invest in a colour wheel. Better still, Make your own Colour Coach.  Don't forget you can also look through the annual Stampin' Up! Catalogue. My goodness, Stampin' Up! sure know how to put colours together. You only have to look at some of the outstanding examples through their catalogues.  AND don't forget, all the colour families are together from pages 182 to 187 inclusive.  Stampin' Up! have also made matching up card stock and ink colours  with Designer Series Papers easier too by having coordinating card stock packs right next to the paper packs on pages 188 through to 191 as well.

Here's photos of my added in, newer In Colours,

If you’re not confident about putting colors together,  you can make use of online colour wheels but honestly, there's nothing like making samples of your own and having them right there at your finger tips.  Some computer monitors have to be 'calibrated' to a fine 'T' to ensure you see true colours. If you don't know how to do that, then using HEX  codes and Pantone colour codings will go a long way to help you too.  Stamping' Up! recognized that many of us want to know the HEX colour codes for their colour families for when we are blogging. So earlier this year when they did the colour re-vamp, they gave us some very handy print outs to use.  I am sharing them below because they are brilliant.

Go to this link to download the current Stampin Up colours and their HEX codes:

Also, they gave us sheets we could print at home showing different colour combinations using the new and re-introduced colours too.  You can find them in pdf form at the following links

FF@F'o'clock! 23rd Nov, 2018!

NewFFatFoclockNov2018

Welcome to another Fabulous Friday. No matter where you are in the world, most people look forward to Fridays, I know I do because it means my hubby is home for the weekend and we can catch up on so much we missed with each other during the week.  He keeps such long hours and with a massive commute over to the far east of Sydney, it's a long trek for him.

This week I'm doing something a little different.  I'm going to share with you a video I made to show you a lot of the gorgeous swaps I received at the recent Melbourne conference I attended.  It's so hard to thank everyone personally and it's taken me til now to get things sorted, places found for new products as well as get journeys up to my father's place and back fitted in.  So grab a cuppa and enjoy what I am showing you all.

I am heading back up to Dad's for 2 days next week.  He goes for the scans to see if the radiation treatment he's just undergone for lung cancer has helped. So far, apart from a cold, he said he's feeling fine.

If you are the praying kind, please keep my Daddy in your prayers. And me for that fact. It's a long drive up there, then almost 2/3's of the way back to get him to the hospital he has to go to then back up to his place again.  I drove it in one day yesterday and my goodness, there's so many road works going on that it was a bit hairy scarry in some places. What's with truckies and some nutbar drivers thinking they can speed through the 80k/hr construction zones?  They can all bite me coz I'm not jeopordizing my driving record so they can get some where faster.  They can pay the fines and loose their licenses, not me!

Anywhoooo, here's the video and below are a couple of still shots too. Yes my desk was swamped  ;-)

As mentioned at the end of my video clip, you only have until 30 November at 11.59pm to get your hands on the gorgeous two stamp sets, thinlits dies, snowflake embellishments and white velvet sheets. They are listed below & linked directly to my store.

Tutu Tuesday Tutorial, 20th Nov,2018!

TutuTuesdayNewHeader3Nov2018

Welcome back to another Tutu Tuesday Tutorial.  Hmmm tutus, they always bring out the fun and big (or not so big ;-) ) kid in me!

This week I'm sharing with you a rather easy and fun little gift you can make that will slip inside an envelope. Pop it in with a Christmas or greeting card and you've sent a handy gift your family and/or friends can see all year 'round!  Let's get cracking....

This is a step by step tutorial, easy to view photos with dimensions listed below the photos.

Step One:  Score along the long edge across the shorter width of A4 card stock at 9cm, 18cm, 22.5cm and 27cm. DO NOT cut off the excess.

CalendarScoring1a

Step Two:  Cut the A4 scored card stock in half giving you two pieces at 10.5cm wide & 29.7cm long. Fold and burnish with a bone folder at all the score lines as per the photo. You will have one fold outwards, the rest inwards as per this photo.... This gives you 2 bases to place your calendars on.  Handy, one sheet of A4 card stock makes 2 bases!

[gallery ids="919,920" type="rectangular"]

You can either use Liquid multipurpose glue or double side tape. I made my first one with the glue, the 2nd with the tape. It's much quicker and less messy with the double side tape!

CalendarBaseGlued1a

Here's a tip on using double side tape, fold back tabs as per photo and pull out whilst holding the piece together, makes it much easier to line up with just a little bit of the sticky then pulling out the rest of the backing paper.  The photos should be self explanatory...

TipForUsingDSTa

Next use your left over scraps of patterned paper. I've cut my pieces approximately 9cm x 8cm. You will adhere the patterned paper first. This is where, if you want to step it up a bit you can ink/paint the edges of your patterned paper first before sticking them down.

finishedCalendars2a

Next adhere your little calendars to the bottom centre of your stand.   Stamp the year on white card stock (or matching if you want but white really makes the year stand out).  Leave room enough to be able to use your punch of choice or, as I've used, the smallest from the stitched oval framelits die set.  I got about 16 cut out of an A5 sized piece. You need room so that the oval stitching cuts out nicely.

finishedCalendars3a

Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you found these step by steps easy to follow.  This is a fabulous way to use up scraps of patterned papers that you might be holding on to because they are so pretty you don't want to waste them.

NOTE:  Do you see those tiny weeny butterflies I've used?  Well, come 3rd January 2019 you will be able to purchase an amazing set of Thinlits dies that include these gorgeous tiny creatures.  Stay tuned for more creations using other dies from that set. There are 20, yes I said TWENTY dies in the set and they are sooooooooo beautiful!

'til next time,

happy stamping, colouring & creating!

M.A.M! Mondays are Marvelous! Nov19th2018

MondaysAreMarvelousHeader1

Welcome back to something a little different,

yes a Monday post!

On Saturday, much to my surprise I received a lovely Product Purchase Premiere order from Stampin' Up!  I never get deliveries on a Saturday so imagine my surprize when I got up and hubby said, check out the huge box that came for you earlier this morning! Goodies I was able to order early because I attended the Melbourne Onstage Local event last weekend.  Happy dance!

So amongst doing some Christmas baking, I've been playing with inks, water colour paper and this gorgeous new Thinlits die set called Butterfly Beauty!  Oh my, I think this is going to be super dooper popular.  Here is just one creation from this morning. I used reinkers dripped onto saturated water colour paper then let them meld together. Once most was dry, I gave the sheet a blast with my heat gun then splattered Vegas Gold Shimmer paint on before adhering the die cut butterfly silhouette. Pretty happy with this.  Now I need to finish off the gingerbread baking I've been doing.

handcolouredOmbreBackground1a

Hand coloured water colour paper by saturating the paper with water then reinkers dribbled on & tilted back & forth to blend the colours in like this Ombre effect!  I splattered on watered down Vegas Gold shimmer paint afterwards.

gettingallinky1a

LOL just the kind of 'messy' play I love. Don't worry, it is all off because I had to finish of that gingerbread baking ;-)

And here's a close up.  I cut out both of the large butterfly cluster from the up and coming new Thinlits set called "Butterfly Beauty" (0n sale 3rd January 2019).  I layered one on top of the other.  I hand painted the top layer with Vegas Gold Shimmer paint, so pretty!

[gallery ids="935,934" type="rectangular"]

I've used a new stamp set, Beauty Abounds, for my insert and the sentiment is from another soon to be releases set called Strong & Beautiful!   I love how this came out, the photos don't do it justice to be honest.  I hope you like this creation!
