Monday Musing, 28th October 2019!

MondayMusingsJune2019A

Here we are again, Monday, it's a thing!

Happens every week LOL

So today I'm feeling a little sorry for myself because I had to see the skin cancer specialist again this morning.  All was really good until he had a much closer look at a patch under my right eye. Right in the corner at the bridge of my nose. You know that spot, if you wear glasses, where your glasses sit right?  So he says hmmm think I need to do a biopsy on that!  Within 2 minutes he's stabbed me with a local. Did you feel that he asked. I said have you done it yet? My eyes were shut and I was deep breathing.   Nope didn't feel it, he was surprised.  Must be all the injections I have regularly, and the fact I'm always doing BGL tests with my fingers.

However, right now, a bit over 2 hours later, it's hurting like a biatch, I've almost got feeling back there and I can almost blink properly again. I was looking a bit like a cyclops there for a few moments ☺.  Let's pray I do not get any phone calls in the next week in regards to this one, it's too close to our son's wedding and too close to OnStage Sydney and tooooo darn close to my eye!!   At least I could put my red lippy on afterwards!

Have a great week everyone.  I'm working on tomorrow's Tutu Tuesday, stay tuned!

Thursday Thoughts, 24 October 2019!

ThursdaysThoughtsJune2019b

I didn't know what I was going to share with you all today but after just receiving a very very sad text message this afternoon, I'm going to share a bit of grief and happiness too!

I have a dear, dear friend who is currently in Argentina.  Her older brother was diagnosed with cancer only in the last few months and had to undergo major surgery.  Not only did he have to suffer that, he got an infection and was rushed back in to surgery because his intestines burst (so I've been advised).

He's been on life support and in intensive care for weeks.  Today, he went to meet his Lord and Saviour.  I am crying as I type this because I can't hug my friend, I can't share her grief as she is so far away.  She will have family around her as she is from Argentina but her husband and 2 daughters had to stay here in Sydney.  This is my dear friend who is involved with Operation Christmas Child and Samaritans Purse, a Christian charity and organisation her husband has worked for for many years.

I am so thankful that Marian was able to get back to Argentina at a moment's notice.  I am so thankful, though it's been tough on her, that through the generosity of other Christians, her airfare was paid for to get her there in time to be with Gerardo, her only and older brother.

I am also thankful and happy I was online this morning to see a post go up for Operation Christmas Child and I made a comment.  I didn't expect anything of it but I have won a very cute cuddly toy Llama for making my comment.

If you do nothing else this week, please support this most worthy of causes.  You could be the difference in a child's life that can have a domino effect for their whole family, even their whole village!

Do it for the kids!!!!

Rest in peace dear Gerardo, I never met you but talked so many times with Marian about you over he years.  May you be out of pain and suffering.

This is a few years old this photo but it shows Marian and I having fun with nail products one day after our bible study group finished.  It's the first photo I could find in a hurry, of us together, yeah before I went super short haired and lost the 'bob' cut ;-) .

Can't wait to hug you again & be there for you Marian, my dear friend and sister in Christ.

MondayMusingsJune2019A

Here we are again, where has the last week gone, blink and it's passed me by.  It's been a busy time of it. Had some huge highs and some very very low lows over the last 8 days or so.

Currently I'm waiting to hear from my sister as my dad's been taken to hospital again by ambulance earlier this morning.  (he was only taken last Tuesday night) This getting old malarkey and this cancer bullsh*t is enough to raise the old blood pressure to alarming rates some days. But I know I'll get through this, I usually do. Staying focused on the positive and getting more done around my little hovel.

It's funny, yesterday I got hubby to get some things down off the top of my huge craft desk.  Stuff is only put up there when I don't need it during my every day routines.  As far as I can tell, I've nothing left up there since yesterday, yes!  Now to get to the shelves  and hanging baskets and be 'ruthless'.

I have the biggest pile of brown packing paper that my Stampin' Up! orders use to come packed in.  It's going to help me save some money on bubble wrap at the moment that's for sure.  Yes, it was up on top of my craft desk's hutch. No way I could have reached it down by myself. As it was I had a 'domino effect' with some that hubby didn't get down.  Handy tool that long handled 'grabber' I've got ;-)

20191021_102808

Whilst hubby got one particular box down that I'd not opened in probably 10 years, I'm so glad he did.  I did a walk down memory lane from many different swaps I use to take part in from the late 1990's til I think about 2005 or 6 that box had stuff from.

My kitchen bench was all cattywampus for hours.  Now there's a word worth musing over. Here's what I found when I searched it's mean. It's now up there with my two favourite words "serendipity" and "extemporaneous" !

cattywampus  adjective

The definition of cattywampus, often spelled catawampus, is not lined up or not arranged correctly, or diagonally. An example of something cattywampus are the positions of the items on the top of a coffee table after a two year old has been playing with them and moving them around.

Man did we make some amazing things this box of gorgeous memories was telling me!  Check out photos of this creation!  Yes Louise Magetti, I've kept this all that time! I'm not sure of the date, but I think it goes back to either Stamping Top 50 or The Scrappers Stash days, or maybe even the old OzStampers yahoo group.  Yes, that long ago!

[gallery ids="1764,1765,1766" type="rectangular"]

And this funny card, which I can still chuckle about but I was being 'subtle' to my father, didn't help, he still got lung cancer and my Mum has been gone since January 2007! Both of them heavy smokers, sigh...

20191020_154037

Check out this gorgeous card, yes I do own the stamps so I can't be sure if I made this or it was in a swap, there's no writing or post it note inside to jog my memory. I love this bear, it came with a front & back.  I recon it's coming out again real soon! Ooo & I have some crown stamps as well ;-)

Whilst I potter around the house and await any further information on my father, I'll leave you with these gorgeous creations my Mum made, yes she was a very talented parchment crafter. These would have been created around 2003 to 2006.

MondayMusingsJune2019A

Hello there,

Yes, musing on Monday again.  Had a fabulous weekend, it was Aiden's 4th birthday party and so much fun! See that photo of him in the Buzz Lightyear tshirt?  That was my Ben's Tshirt which had been saved in a draw for nearly 22yrs!  Aiden did many tshirt changes through out his party but he finally put the Buzz one on and stayed in it!  How that warmed my heart!  We played totem tennis, we laughed, we ate pizza and cheese and crackers and dips and Aiden and I shared a pink musk stick lolly too. Ah he loves his GinGin and Herbie like he loves all those around him who love him so much.

Father and son got to battle out the totem tennis and yes Ben, ya mumma's arm did bruise, but not too bad, a bit like having a vaccination shot, I'll live ROFL.

HOWEVER...

... the last few weeks have been hard. Really hard.  You see I took my father for a check up with his urologist 2 weeks ago and last week for his 3 monthly oncology check up.  Within the space of those 2 appointments, I saw my father, my Daddy, deteriorate into this feeble old man (his mind is still a 'naughty boy' mind though LOL)  He was completely different from one check up to the following one.  I've not cried, I think I've done so much of that but this time, I don't know. I think Dad and I both knew something wasn't quite right and we talked about it and we agreed with his oncologist's assistant that we expected there to be a return of the cancer in his right lung.

Well no said Roland when he walked in to to have a closer look of all the scans. No no, no no, we can't be certain.  You see your father is in this research trial, the radiation treatment was nearly a full year ago but it is still doing it's 'job', this shadow could still be the scarring forming.  But Dad was really breathless that day.  He said he's usually like it when he has to get up earlier than he usually gets up. Well to me getting up at 9am is not early but for Daddy it is, he's usually up about 11am'ish.  Anyway, Roland said Dad needs to get back to his respiratory specialist because this not being able to breath and the fluid/phlegm he can't seem to cough up from his lungs (it gets stuck in his throat) needs to be checked out.  Dad's on some antibiotics to help with what infection the oncologist feels is there.  A referral has been sent to Wyong hospital and Dad's letting me know when that appointment will be.

Now  to make matters worse, Dad can receive calls on his landline but for some strange reason no one can hear when calls are made out from his landline. Dad's paying for all these phone calls only to be hung up on because they can't hear him.  Talk about funny in a way because it's Dad's that going deaf! I feel the need, the need to call Optus faults and let rip again.  If I have them say to me on you'll have to get your father to call I will freak'in loose it!  I had more than 5 months of that at the beginning of the year.  Don't tell me that B/S all over again.  We know where that landed don't we!  Yes with the Telecommunications Ombudsman!!!!!

Between Dad and my sister, using her mobile is a comedy of errors.  You see my sister is mildly intellectually handicapped so relies on my father, as he does her.  She doesn't drive either, never has. My sister and I agree that we don't like Dad being on his own when she's got to/wants to go out. My sister can be quite independent but she doesn't handle change/technology/bad news very well, doesn't and can't mentally repeat things she's been told that she needs to tell others, she just hands my father her phone but poor dad can't hear properly on a mobile phone, sigh.

Talk about caught between a rock and a hard place!  My blogging, my crafting, my regular FF@F'o'clock'ish and Tutu Tuesday posts have taken a back seat for now.  I drove nearly 800ks in the last two visits and back. Taking Dad to oncology is not like in Sydney. I've got to drive up the day before to Chain Valley Bay North, then drive down to East Gosford, then drive Dad back up to Chain Valley Bay north then drive back home to my place in Sydney.  It's a lot of driving when the sun is getting warmer and bright sunshine hurts my eyes so very badly.  I have my own 'issues' and the sun makes them worse. Think lupus SLE and fibromyalgia for a start.

Any-who, if you read this far, thank you.  Writing some of this down helps me get out some of my frustration and grief without having to repeat myself.  I'm trying to cope as best I can but summer is coming. Our Ben's wedding is 30th November and the ceremony is outside.  I think I need a new hat!  A nice red one to go with my outfit I am wearing. Yes?  Yes, a new red hat may be perfect!

Bye for now, and remember,

happy stamping colouring & creating!

Thursday, ANZAC day, 25/4/2019

ThursdaysThoughtsMar2019a

Well hello there everyone!  Yes another 'break in transmission' but you know, life and family do come first.   I've so much swirling around in my head that I don't know where to start, so let's try....

Firstly, today in Australia and New Zealand is ANZAC Day where both our nations pause to remember all who were lost, survived, work with or have anything to do with our Australian and New Zealand armed forces. Soldiers, sailors, airman, ground crew, medics, nurses, voluntary forces, humanitarian aids in wartorn countries, there are many! Yes our two countries still have serving personnel in war zones.  No matter who or where, we will always remember, never forget.  LEST WE FORGET!

Though the Herbster and I don't get to any dawn services these days, we have been to our share when we were younger and first married.  Look at my hubby back then ready to march with the flag.  He's always looked pretty spesh in any of his uniforms ♥

2010-08-21_382010-08-21_39

Yes that IS Herbie in the middle, holding the white ensign, also known back then as CPOMTPHampson, Brian.  Yeah, Herbie is a nicname but don't call him Brian, only his Mum calls him Brian. Or me when I'm teasing him ☺

Okay so next, yes, there are loads of retiring Stampin' Up! items retiring but there are also sooo many new ones coming that yeah, it's making my head spin.  I will list in a "FOR SALE" album on my Facebook Business page (https://www.facebook.com/StampOutYourArtWithVirginia/ ) as soon as I can, what I will have for sale.

Image may contain: indoor

Just to let you know this is within Australia only so please do not be offended if I can't sell to you. Postage out of Australia is very very expensive these days and I'm sure where ever you are, you've got a good number of demonstrators you can call on/look up to find retired items you may have been looking for.  Amongst all that there are at least 150 stamp sets, some dating back to when SU first came to Australia and were wood mounted only.  There's also going to be ink pads, most with matching reinker too.  I may even have paper packs to sell.  It will all be AS IS.   Paper WILL be cut down #loveitchopit styled (Australian card front sizes) which will make postage easier (size can be an issue with 12 x 12 sheets) I can make 12"x12" (30cm x 30cm)  sheets to 6"x6" (15x15cm) sheets if you want. I don't always cut up all my designer series papers but for the sake of postage, yes, I must chop it!  I will allow people to visit and pick up but only at my time slot and only during business/office hours in Sydney Australia.   Don't know what #loveitchop is?  Please google it because it's amazing the empowerment this mindset can give you to stop you hoarding beautiful DSP.  Remember, you can't take it with you when you leave this world. You can't keep it for ever, it's ment to be used, it's ment to be created with. It is a consumable, so don't hoard it or you may be in for a shock at what can happen to paper stock when it's forgotten and your roof leaks.  Ask me how I know ;-)

But in my best 'Tim Shaw' impersonation voice, wait there is more............... (Aussies may remember the quote from TV ads years ago)

I've been back and forth all over the place lately that it's so good to 'hibernate' back at home and have a few pj days.  My father had his oncology check yesterday.  To say things are a little up in the air at the moment well, it's now an understatement.  He has developed some fluid on his lungs due to inflammation. Roland, his oncologist has said it could be nothing, just inflammation from the radiation treatment, especially where the scaring is.  However to be on the safe side, Dad's got to have some steroids for the next 4 weeks with a scan at the end of it and another appointment to see Roland on 29th May to see if the cancer has come back or it's just some thing starting with an 'N' that I can't recall what he called it. I keep thinking noduel, that'll do for a 'description' Any who, the oncologist doesn't wan to put through Daddy through a needle puncture to draw out some of the fluid. He's a very kind doctor. He's explained that it would achieve nothing because if it is still cancer cells there, Dad can't have any more radiation treatment anyway. Having the medication and going back in a month is much better to do in his humble opinion.  So yeah, we'll cross that bridge on 29th May won't we.

I'll finish for now, leaving you with the photo of the 'Benjamin Rose' as it's fondly referred to as.  It's a Mr Lincoln, bought when I found out I was pregnant with my only son. Daddy took it up the central coast and planted it up there and it was in full bloom the other morning!

13 December 2018

It's real personal...Thur, 13th Dec-2018

Hi everyone,

This is a personal post today, not much by way of photos/graphics either.  It's been a hectic, emotional and sometimes angry 8 days or so in Wirgie's little world.  You probably know from past posts, my elderly (1 month til he's 85) father was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year.  He has been through an intensive course of radiation treatment.   My son took him to those appointments because they were close together and he lives up near his grandad.  However, I've been going up taking him to his follow ups, gp, scans and such.

Image may contain: text that says "CAN'T DECIDE IF I NEED A HUG, AN XL COFFEE, 6 SHOTS OF VODKA, OR 2 2 WEEKS OF SLEEP."

Last Wednesday morning I got a frantic call from my younger sister.  Now bare in mind, she is dependent on my father. She doesn't drive, she's on a disability pension and isn't the shiniest penny in the jar at times.  Let's just say she's on the autism spectrum, so all kinds of different in some ways.  She was with Dad at his new GP.  Yes, I know, bad timing to change to a new GP mid cancer treatment.  But I'm so glad he did. Dad was very sick. He'd been going to his previous GP for three weeks, being kept waiting for hours, got impatient and stormed out.  The last time was the final straw and he sought out a new GP who happens to be my sisters, closer to home and more convenient re: blood test, pharmacy right next door as well as the supermarket he likes to shop at.

Well, he got taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital from the doctor's surgery. My sister had to go with  him in the ambulance too (not the first time she's called one from home for him as well)   Any who, the GP got on the phone to me because Nicole isn't capable of relaying to people what other's have explained to her, she gets all muddled and doesn't really grasp how to say exactly the same thing she's been told. What's that saying? "In one ear, out the other"?  So I spoke with the GP and yeah, suspicions confirmed that Dad has pneumonia  as well as his heart was racing so bad, doctor thought it best, given his recent radiation treatments, he'd best be in hospital to be checked out.

Image may contain: flower, plant and nature

So I race up there, drop everything, get there, pick up my sister because they wouldn't let both of us be in there and they'd taken him for a scan.  We went home to their place, threw together some things in case Dad got admitted.  They kept us waiting near on 10pm at night then discharged him with some antibiotics and a request he get back to his GP before Friday. So, like the dutiful daughter I stayed up there to get him to the GP.  He wasn't capable of driving, he was coughing too much and he's also very fatigued. (that's expected after radiation treatment, not the coughing  though)

I've always know my father has a had a bit of a temper and anger issues in the past but I've ever witnessed it personally.  Sadly I copped the brunt of it for days.  I do understand he's dealing with so much, I do have empathy with the frustration he can't do things around the house like he use to do ie gardening, painting, pottering about in his shed and such.  He can't do that any more but he is fiercely independent but also quite deaf without his hearing aids.  That's another thing, he complains he can't under stand what people are saying but he fiddles with his hearing aids so much and gets massive wax build ups that he's brought some of that on himself. He snapped at me in front of the doctor, I had to excuse myself for a few minutes to calm down, stop crying and go back in. The doctor was so 'perceptive' and I think my father also realized how he'd spoken to me.  From then, the doctor spoke with me so I could relay to Dad.

There is so much more that I could share but I'm so shell shocked and cranky and sad and annoyed and tired all at once.   Didn't help I had a to do with my son via sms but we've sorted that.  On top of that my father's phone line is in the throws of being transferred back into his name with he company he use to be with before Ben moved in. Talk about a pack of pooh tickets.  Bloody Telstra. Anyway, we've got dad an emergency mobile phone. Not that he'll turn the bloody thing on, but it's there in case he needs to make a call or we need to call him if Nicole is out.  Once his telstra account is reactivated, we can link it to this mobile I've given him and he can take that mobile with him  where ever he goes.

Image may contain: plant, flower, nature and outdoor

I have been walking around his house lately looking at all that's not been done in a very long time.  He has a cleaner for maybe one 1 to 2 hour session a month but she, in my humble opinion, is a bit slack. She's never dusted. When I moved the few pieces of the Japanese tea set that had been unpacked 18yrs ago, from the shelf, you could see it hadn't been moved in years. I mean really, Dad has lung problems, why would you not keep the dust to a minimum?  Benjamin can only do so much now he's moved to Budgewoi. I see things that need doing and I myself am too short to rectify them. If I was taller I would but nope, can't do stuff. You know even plugging in things to power sockets in the kitchen I can't do because the darn house must have been built for giants, I can't even reach to plug in, unplug the toaster, kettle, my phone charger.  My sister went out and I had to go find a ladder to get my phone down.

So you see, things have been so erratic on my blog for months but I am trying to keep a positive outlook. I am awaiting a call from an Aged Care Assessment team who will see if there are things they can put in to place to help Dad more to be able to stay in his own home.  He's been given the all clear to keep driving by his GP, so he has to put those papers in and sit a driving assessment next month too.  Now that's going to be interesting, wonder if he'll loose his temper during that when it happens?  Nothing like yelling at other drivers, shoppers, even the tv screen when he doesn't agree with things. Sigh, so over it all at the moment but I just want my Daddy to be a bit more happy, comfortable and confident he can call on others for help instead of being so stubborn and putting on the brave face, the stiff upper lip so to speak (yeah he is so freakin' 'British' it is sickening some days).  No such thing as keep calm and carry on in his world any more.  I am looking forward to talking with the care team because I am positive my father is severely depressed. He admitted he's never enjoyed Christmas since my Mum passed away 13yrs ago.  I 'get' that but he has a 3yr old great grandson no, he should be happy to be having a Christmas with a toddler in the family now, sigh.....

Thanks for reading if you got this far.  We shall see if I can gather together a nice crafty post for you all tomorrow.

Byee for now, have a lovely Thursday!

And remember,

happy stamping, colouring & creating!
