Thursday Thoughts, 24 October 2019!

ThursdaysThoughtsJune2019b

I didn't know what I was going to share with you all today but after just receiving a very very sad text message this afternoon, I'm going to share a bit of grief and happiness too!

I have a dear, dear friend who is currently in Argentina.  Her older brother was diagnosed with cancer only in the last few months and had to undergo major surgery.  Not only did he have to suffer that, he got an infection and was rushed back in to surgery because his intestines burst (so I've been advised).

He's been on life support and in intensive care for weeks.  Today, he went to meet his Lord and Saviour.  I am crying as I type this because I can't hug my friend, I can't share her grief as she is so far away.  She will have family around her as she is from Argentina but her husband and 2 daughters had to stay here in Sydney.  This is my dear friend who is involved with Operation Christmas Child and Samaritans Purse, a Christian charity and organisation her husband has worked for for many years.

I am so thankful that Marian was able to get back to Argentina at a moment's notice.  I am so thankful, though it's been tough on her, that through the generosity of other Christians, her airfare was paid for to get her there in time to be with Gerardo, her only and older brother.

I am also thankful and happy I was online this morning to see a post go up for Operation Christmas Child and I made a comment.  I didn't expect anything of it but I have won a very cute cuddly toy Llama for making my comment.

If you do nothing else this week, please support this most worthy of causes.  You could be the difference in a child's life that can have a domino effect for their whole family, even their whole village!

Do it for the kids!!!!

Rest in peace dear Gerardo, I never met you but talked so many times with Marian about you over he years.  May you be out of pain and suffering.

This is a few years old this photo but it shows Marian and I having fun with nail products one day after our bible study group finished.  It's the first photo I could find in a hurry, of us together, yeah before I went super short haired and lost the 'bob' cut ;-) .

Can't wait to hug you again & be there for you Marian, my dear friend and sister in Christ.

Thursday Thoughts revisited! 10th October 2019

This is another repeat of a post from 14th March 2019.  As you may have guessed, although I'm not that new to Wordpress anymore, some things can still baffle me and I found this post got saved as a page instead of a post too.  Like this week's Monday Musing had.  Glad I figured it out and am rectifying this.

ThursdaysThoughtsJune2019b

Well that's rather interesting to wake up to.  Both Facebook and Instagram are down, crashed, not working. LOL I have to laugh because Facebook can be my biggest time waster, are you like that?

Anywhoo, I thought of a new post theme, Thursday's Thoughts so I'm running with it this morning.

I have to say, there have been so many thoughts running through both mine and my dear hubby's heads a lot lately.  Something that has almost 'engulfed' us these last 2 years is the horrible saga about our beautiful Jacaranda tree.  You may recall me talking about the neighbour who was insisting that we have it removed completely before he would agree to a new fence.  All this has seen us end up being taken to the Australian Land & Environment Court back in early February.

March2019OurJacaranda1a

I am so very happy and relieved to say that we won the court case and not only do we keep our tree, the neighbour has been given a deadline of 14 days to get 2 quotes to have the small section of his drive ground down level, not replaced as he has been insisting.  He then has 90 days to get the work done. Should he fail to meet those deadlines, we do not have to pay one cent towards the 50% cost of the grinding. PLUS, he can't contest or dispute the findings, they are final and can no longer claim anything from us again.   We are just about to find out from the fencing contractor when they start building our new fence.  What a huge relief.

The Judge also commented on how cruel the owner of next door had been towards my health conditions and the fact that when he came to our home and sat under our tree, see there in the photo, he witnessed first hand the whole of our little home in full shade from our Jacaranda.  The fact that I also had the best photo of the neighbour's driveway date stamped back in 2009 showing the drive way looking exactly as it is today, well, he said it was a no brainer, that the tree had not cause any further movement since then. NUFF SAID!

The judge also said that the complaint the neighbour was making about our cat enclosure were unfounded and had nothing to do with the tree and that the council did not have to be advised that we had it built as it was not a 'permanent' structure.  You can see it in the photo below our tree.

To say the Herbster and I are over the moon is an understatement.  So many of our friends have been praying for us and for a favourable outcome on this that we can't thank them and our Lord Jesus enough for looking out for us.

So that's my first Thursday Thoughts post. I'll leave you with a photo of a little fella who's been watching my computer screen as I've typed this.

Hello there everyone,

This is short and sweet but I wanted to say hi and share a quick little card I made this week.  I've been in a bit of a creative desert so I had to force myself to sit and just stamp. Pretty happy with this little creation.

finishedcardVeryVersaillesCloseUp1a

I've had both my kitties at the Vets' in the last 10 days as well for their annual checks and vaccinations.  Whilst there, Nibbles our ragdoll had his yearly 'grooming'  ie, he went in a ragdoll and came out a temporary siamese LOL.  He's so darn cute!!

So here is my finished card, it was very quick and I think I've almost broken the creative drought ;-)

Thursday's Thoughts-13June'19

ThursdaysThoughtsJune2019b

Do you ever get 'creative block'?  I know I do and sometimes it's really hard to get out of that creative block.  What do I do? Well usually I shuffle things around on my desks, I look at the product catalogue, I test out new items I've purchased, I see what colours look like.  In general, I just make a big mess then have to clean it up again.  That's what I did this morning.  I've had creative block for ages but the last few weeks I have made myself sit and 'play' with products. I've made myself keep my desk tidy and clean and put things away as soon as I've finished with them.  Keeping my desk cleared after 'playing' has helped enormously.

This morning I made a huge mess, my fingers are stained and I've only made 2 small cardS but I did get to see what the colours look like and how a little of this new product I was playing with is needed.  I would say these 6 little tubs of highly pigmented sprinkles will last a long long time.  What did I discover?  Oh my goodness, they are gorgeous and they can be mixed with water, rubbing alcohol, Texture paste or just sprinkled onto wet water colour paper.  There's lots more I want to try with these powders but for now I'll leave you with these photos I took.

Hope you liked my 'messy play'. I only used some scraps of water colour paper that were in my scraps bin, adhered to the front of note cards with a bit of basic black matting and they look quite striking I must say!

ps, can you pick the 'error' I've been making for many many months?  It's in my water mark on my photos.  Oh derr to moi, now I'm use to my new glasses I finally picked it ROFL, so the last photo has the correct typing it it ;-)   See ya!

This is for those of you who only know me as Wirg/Wirgie and don't know my real/given name and it's meaning and how/why the nicname 'Wirg' came in to being.

I looked up my real name's meaning for my friend Rhonda recently and found this on Wikipeadia ..... I now know why my mother gave me this lovely name and why I embrace it these days too.
Quote:  Virginia is a feminine given name derived from the Ancient Roman family name Virginius, a name probably derived from the Latin word virgo, meaning "maiden" or "virgin." According to legend, Virginia was a Roman girl who was killed by her father in order to save her from seduction by the corrupt government official Appius Claudius Crassus.[1]

The name was the 34th most common name for American women and girls, according to the census of 1990. It was the 545th most popular name given to baby girls born in the United States in 2007.[1]

Virginia Dare was the first child born to English parents in North America. Virginia O'Hanlon wrote a letter that prompted the famous "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" editorial in the September 21, 1897 edition of the New York Sun. The most famous Virginia is probably the English modernist author Virginia Woolf.  End Quote.

So where did I  get “Wirg/Wirgie” from?

Someone (well many) asked me didn't they ROFL. This is what I shared on my personal facebook wall over the weekend with a friend.  No, you won't see it if you are not in my friends listing but you will what I've written here and on my business Facebook page.

Here goes....a direct copy with a bit of editing to make it a bit more 'polished'.

Many years ago in a land far far away called 'the Australian Public Service" I use to work in a government agency prior to the last one I worked at. You know that one from which I retired (ie Medicare's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme/PBS). That first government agency was named "The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency" or 'The Agency" and it shall here in after be named the "place that gave me lots of money to make me redundant.

At said agency there was a woman who was ment to be the IT expert, she wasn't but yeah she worked there anyway. I was ment to go home by 2.30pm most days as I had to get my son from school. Many times she would beg me to stay back and help her with the system back ups for all the computers. As I was only ment to be permanent part time, any extra I did was good because said Agency would pay me huge amounts of time & a half and also give me flex time so I could take extra days off when needed.

I always knew when I was going to be begged to stay back. Down the open plan windowed area she'd saunter all coy saying 'Wiiiirg.... Wirgie... pretty please Wirgie would you stay back and help me, I am overwhelmed, go on Wirgie, I'll sign your overtime sheet'

So I became Wirg or Wirgie and when I left the public service all together I didn't want either Agencies snooping on me. I knew they didn't know about the nicname so I ran with it. Both agencies had a privacy clause in my work contracts.  Much of what I knew/still know is highly classified. I would not want to be tracked down by other agency employees who left with grievances and wanted me to be a 'witness' to the unfair treatment. I walked away with my head held high (as much as a short person can) and the really cute nic name of Wirgie. And let's face it, it's been a conversation starter for sure.

End of the story from the far far away land of "the Australian 🤣Public Service"

At the risk of repeating myself,

blimey is it really Monday again?

Where have the last 3 or 4 weeks gone?  Life has been a roller coaster, just got a ride it!  (there's a song in there LOL).   Days have been blurring for me lately, so forgive me if I repeat myself.   This is my blog for creative sharing but it's also kind of a diary too.  Any long time friends, my family, long time acquaintances even. Just anyone who's known me for a long time probably realize this.

I can ramble a lot but I find, just like "The Bloggess", Jenny Lawson can do and does, it helps to write things down, either by typing or leaving myself notes here, there and everywhere (there's another song!).  My phone is also a record of dates I need to remember or want to remember LOL.  Just as well it is or my Daddy would be in the pooh, he chucked out last year's calendar with all the dates he needed to remember, but yeah, Wirgie had them recorded on her phone. Handy that, when technology works how you want and need it to.

So today I am share some quotes.  I have to thank my lovely friend Michelle Lark for a gorgeous, tiny women's quote calendar she gave me for Christmas last year.  I've been forgetting to tear of the pages. But when I do, there is always some amazing quote that sees me nodding my head.  So here's a few to muse on.

  • "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make" - Jane Goodall (Monday 22nd April's quote)

  • "I've always loved butterflies, because they remind us that it's never too late to transform ourselves" - Drew Barrymore (weekend of 27/28 April's quote)

  • "If you want your children to turn out well, spend twice as much time with them, and half as much money" - Abigail Van Buren (Thursday 7th March's quote)

  • "Despite the forecast, live like it's spring!" - Lilly Pulitzer (weekend of 2/3 February quote)

  • "So you're a little weird? Work it! A little different? OWN IT! Better to be a nerd than one of the herd!" - Mandy Hale (Thursday 11th April quote)

But wait there's more!  I shared a mosaic of photos via my Instagram account on the weekend .  It was of my note book received in my Stampin'Up! tote back at April's OnStage Live.  Here are larger photos to show you that I've started a new 'memories/ideas/art samples/notes' journal out of it. Like that one I shared in this post at this time (click to see the video in a new page)

So thanks for stopping by, have a good week and maybe check out tomorrow's TuTu Tuesday's post, yes, it's scheduled, 'when you are on a good thing, stick to it" Aussies may know that quote, oh I crack myself up!

Thursday, ANZAC day, 25/4/2019

ThursdaysThoughtsMar2019a

Well hello there everyone!  Yes another 'break in transmission' but you know, life and family do come first.   I've so much swirling around in my head that I don't know where to start, so let's try....

Firstly, today in Australia and New Zealand is ANZAC Day where both our nations pause to remember all who were lost, survived, work with or have anything to do with our Australian and New Zealand armed forces. Soldiers, sailors, airman, ground crew, medics, nurses, voluntary forces, humanitarian aids in wartorn countries, there are many! Yes our two countries still have serving personnel in war zones.  No matter who or where, we will always remember, never forget.  LEST WE FORGET!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McCDWYgVyps

Though the Herbster and I don't get to any dawn services these days, we have been to our share when we were younger and first married.  Look at my hubby back then ready to march with the flag.  He's always looked pretty spesh in any of his uniforms ♥

2010-08-21_382010-08-21_39

Yes that IS Herbie in the middle, holding the white ensign, also known back then as CPOMTPHampson, Brian.  Yeah, Herbie is a nicname but don't call him Brian, only his Mum calls him Brian. Or me when I'm teasing him ☺

https://www.facebook.com/10dailyau/videos/322904535062409/

Okay so next, yes, there are loads of retiring Stampin' Up! items retiring but there are also sooo many new ones coming that yeah, it's making my head spin.  I will list in a "FOR SALE" album on my Facebook Business page (https://www.facebook.com/StampOutYourArtWithVirginia/ ) as soon as I can, what I will have for sale.

Image may contain: indoor

Just to let you know this is within Australia only so please do not be offended if I can't sell to you. Postage out of Australia is very very expensive these days and I'm sure where ever you are, you've got a good number of demonstrators you can call on/look up to find retired items you may have been looking for.  Amongst all that there are at least 150 stamp sets, some dating back to when SU first came to Australia and were wood mounted only.  There's also going to be ink pads, most with matching reinker too.  I may even have paper packs to sell.  It will all be AS IS.   Paper WILL be cut down #loveitchopit styled (Australian card front sizes) which will make postage easier (size can be an issue with 12 x 12 sheets) I can make 12"x12" (30cm x 30cm)  sheets to 6"x6" (15x15cm) sheets if you want. I don't always cut up all my designer series papers but for the sake of postage, yes, I must chop it!  I will allow people to visit and pick up but only at my time slot and only during business/office hours in Sydney Australia.   Don't know what #loveitchop is?  Please google it because it's amazing the empowerment this mindset can give you to stop you hoarding beautiful DSP.  Remember, you can't take it with you when you leave this world. You can't keep it for ever, it's ment to be used, it's ment to be created with. It is a consumable, so don't hoard it or you may be in for a shock at what can happen to paper stock when it's forgotten and your roof leaks.  Ask me how I know ;-)

But in my best 'Tim Shaw' impersonation voice, wait there is more............... (Aussies may remember the quote from TV ads years ago)

I've been back and forth all over the place lately that it's so good to 'hibernate' back at home and have a few pj days.  My father had his oncology check yesterday.  To say things are a little up in the air at the moment well, it's now an understatement.  He has developed some fluid on his lungs due to inflammation. Roland, his oncologist has said it could be nothing, just inflammation from the radiation treatment, especially where the scaring is.  However to be on the safe side, Dad's got to have some steroids for the next 4 weeks with a scan at the end of it and another appointment to see Roland on 29th May to see if the cancer has come back or it's just some thing starting with an 'N' that I can't recall what he called it. I keep thinking noduel, that'll do for a 'description' Any who, the oncologist doesn't wan to put through Daddy through a needle puncture to draw out some of the fluid. He's a very kind doctor. He's explained that it would achieve nothing because if it is still cancer cells there, Dad can't have any more radiation treatment anyway. Having the medication and going back in a month is much better to do in his humble opinion.  So yeah, we'll cross that bridge on 29th May won't we.

I'll finish for now, leaving you with the photo of the 'Benjamin Rose' as it's fondly referred to as.  It's a Mr Lincoln, bought when I found out I was pregnant with my only son. Daddy took it up the central coast and planted it up there and it was in full bloom the other morning!

Thoughts on Thursday, 21st March 2019

ThursdaysThoughtsMar2019a

Hi everyone, yes it's Thursday and yes I've missed last Friday's FF@F and Tuesday's Tutu Tuesday.  It's been an interesting week since we got the notification we'd won our court case to keep our Jacaranda tree.

Some thoughts hubby and I have had since are why did it have to get so far as to end up in the Land & Enviornment court? Why couldn't the very stubborn and angry owner of the two rentals next door not see what damage he was doing to us mentally?  That he was paying out huge amounts to a legal firm who should have advised him to take our final offer (which, by the way, was very very generous).

On Hubby's final offer he quoted this passage from the bible at the beginning of his correspondence. We are now wondering if that made him even more angry. Stupid man!

"Love for Enemies"  Luke 6:27-30 (NIV version

"But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you,  If someone slaps you on the one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not with hold your shirt from them.  Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back"

No, instead, he let his anger rule him and he got his day in court and before the judge, twice, to be told no and to be told he had 2 deadlines to meet due the rulings handed down.  Has he met the first one yet? No!  Have we advised him we are still waiting and he has less than 5 days before he looses even that opportunity to have some work done on his concrete driveway?  Yes!  We have reminded him that he signed a legal document more than a year ago, in the presence of the mediators, that he agreed to the cost and the type of new fence we organised to be built.  He's now disputing that too.

We've sent him a letter with a copy of his signed agreement, a copy of the quote and said if he's not willing to honor his part that he agreed to, then we are going ahead with our new fence. We will pay for it in full our selves and we no longer want any contact with him going forward.  That fence has been paid for in full by us for a year just waiting to be built, all we were going to do was invoice him for his half.

Bare in mind, 18yrs ago he willfully damaged said fence so we've also quote to him from the Dividing Fences Act 1991-Sect 8 '

"An adjoining owner is liable for  up to the whole cost of the fencing work required to restore a dividing fence that has been damaged or destroyed by a negligent or  deliberate act of the owner or of a person who has entered the land concerned with the express or implied consent of the owner."

Keeping this in mind, he is actually liable to pay for the whole new fence himself which hubby recons he's not looked in to and realised!  We have documentation with our solicitor back then on when he pulled the fence down and moved it himself just after we bought and moved in.  When he put it back up it became so wonky and has fallen apart since.  We didn't fight him then but it's only one of a long list of things he's done since we moved here.  Asking us to remove our Jacaranda, which was here when we moved in, was the final straw that broke us down, hence we said ok, go ahead, we will see you in court!  He lost and he's still arguing?  Aggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whilst all this was happening, my hubby has had to bite his tongue, be very diplomatic and calm with all his correspondence and verbal dealings.  Not any more.  He lost it on Monday when he received yet another email saying "no no no no no not going to agree to the fence, I should be allowed to put in two quotes as well"  Hells Bells!!!!!!   He's already agreed to a quote, the style of the new fence and now he says no?   So not taking it anymore said hubby and he went to town.  Hubby has told him, in not so kind words, that he will no longer take any notice of him and he's washed his hands of the relationship, what little there was left.   Our new fence WILL BE BUILT starting 4th April barring any unforseen events such as the weather!  Both the tenants living there are quite happy that a new fence is going in and have no problems with when it happens.

To say it's still causing a bit of stress is an understatement but we know we've done nothing wrong, we have the law on our side and we are pushing ahead.  Our property will look so much better once the fence is in. PLUS next door will no longer be able to look in on us and into our back windows. We will have more privacy than we've ever had and the colourbond fence will also cut down the noise of the vehicles going up and down their driveway which is right next to both our bedrooms!

So yeah, that's what the last week has been like here at the the Hampson's Hovel as we affectionately call our little house.  Now I'm turning back to my craft desk to finish what I hope will be a very welcomed creation for all my crafty readers!

Til next time, remember,

Live, love and laugh often!

25 February 2019

It's about love, it's about Jesus!

Hello every one &welcome to a very

very different blog post!

Last night I was blessed to be able to attend the Graham Tour at the Sydney International Conference Centre, Darling Harbour.  It wasn't just a Christian music concert, it wasn't just a talk by Billy Graham's son Franklin, it was an EVENT!  An event that I pray changed the lives of the many who answered the call to go down to the front and accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour!  I feel so humbled that I could be there. So thankful that I gave my life to the Lord many years ago too!   My heart swelled as did tears as I watch hundreds make their way down the foot of the stage and pray their acceptance prayer!

https://youtu.be/doMWxl6RFg4

I was also filled with the love for my hubby who was with me, and for my dear friends, Rodney & Marian Trinidad.   Rodney has been worked tirelessly for a very long time, with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to bring about this amazing tour that Franklin Graham has done.   If you didn't have the opportunity to catch any of the events throughout Australia, you have one last chance tonight.  It's free, it's open to anyone to go.  And believe me when I say, even the most hard hearted can be moved by the word of the Lord given through Franklin who follows on in this father's, the most Reverend Billy Graham, footsteps!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcIWnaXiJLk

I feel most humbled that we got in to the ICC, it was looking like we may have not been able to get inside.  I stood there praying "Please Lord, let there be room for us to go in"  There was!  We stood in that que for nearly 1 & 1/2 hours, we were only a couple of people from the front of the que when they stopped letting anyone in.  Waiting there, I just knew we'd get in if we were patient and humbled.

Do yourselves a favour, go in early, very early!  Make sure you give a good couple of hours waiting time to get into the ICC.  It's a massive place but believe me it was filled to the rafters! I knew how big it was inside having been there for a Tina Arena concert a couple of years ago.  I am in awe that Franklin's message reached so many. That this place was bursting at the seams. That they had an over flow outside too! It wasn't for the Tina concert, but it was for Franklin and the memory of his wonderful father, the Rev. Billy Graham, all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Go see what the tour has been about, follow this link, then ask yourself, are you right with the Lord?  It's never too late!

https://grahamtour.billygraham.org/about/#about-tour

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz1ppBmaUfw

Here are some photos that I took.  Even though we were way up in the 'nose bleed' seats as Franklin called them, (there were more above us further back too) we had the best view! And oh my goodness, Crowder, now that's one Christian rocker who has to be experienced.  I know I've shared a few Youtube clips of his music on my Facebook page but to be there live and hear him, man he's awesome and he gets the Message across!

This first photo is of Rodney Trinidad making the announcement that the concert was about to start and giving a few 'house keeping tips' for when Franklin was to come on and when Franklin was to make the 'call'.  Rodney, you are a champion, this tour can only be describes a pure joy!

My goodness that was heart stopping, foot stomping awesome!  My son would be impressed with Dave Crowder's beard too. Hubby said he looked like a member of ZZTop LOL

Sooooooooooo there you have it, that's how I spent my Saturday night last night!  It was long and I slept in very late, but so worth it.  If I didn't have to walk as far as we did last night, I'd go again but nah, I'll let those who've not been  & had the chance to get in have it!

GO, YOU WON'T BE SORRY!
