Bit of this & a bit of that, 26Oct2018

Hello everyone. Happy Friday to you all!

This is a quick update for those following, about my father.   On Wednesday he had his first radiation treatment. My darling sweet son, Benjamin, took him there and back and is taking him again this afternoon for his 2nd session.  Dad called me yesterday afternoon and we had a long talk.  He said apart from feeling rather tired (which they warned would happen) he feels good.  He sounded a lot more calm than he's been in a few months. This photo was taken a couple of years ago, before I 'lost the bob' hair style. It's an all time favourite photo of Dad and I.



We talked about his feelings and how he's been a bit of a cranky pants to all those around him lately and he did say he was so sorry to me.  I wished I could have reached through the phone and hugged him on the spot.  I knew that was not my Daddy who was so very angry and annoyed with the world.  Prayers from both my church and my bible study group along with all of you  have been felt and he's coming to terms with his situation.  I live in hope that my father will acknowledge those prayers and accept that Jesus is watching over him and knows his struggles.

Dad's 2nd youngest brother, Dougie, is out from the UK and has been driving Dad's old car so Dad doesn't have to tax himself at this time.  My father is very independent so that's huge to let someone drive for him just to go to the supermarket.  Dad has 2 more sessions after today, Monday afternoon and Wednesday as well, then he'll have a follow up scan in a few months to see how the well treatment has gone.

So there you have it, thanks for your prayers and we are taking each day at a time.  Can you keep praying for John, my father, and my younger sister, Nicole, who is 'special needs' and lives with my father.  Given that she if she was diagnosed these days she'd probably be on the autism spectrum charts., she is such a strong woman dealing with my cranky Dad. I talked with her on Wednesday too, in depth, wow, how she can 'switch off' as she said makes me in awe of her. I couldn't live with my father day in, day out when he's like he has been.

So thank you everyone, if you read this far, you are champions.   Stay tuned for what I feel is a 'stunner' of a FF@F'o'clock'ish project this afternoon.  I'm actually impressed with myself at what came together after such a long lack of creational motivation.

Tutu Tuesday!

Well hello there everyone!

Today is a very special day in the Stampin' Up! ® world!  Today marks their 30th Birthday, isn't that amazing in this day of fast changes!

Because of this fabulous milestone, for today only there is a 15% off sale on selected stamp sets.  I've chosen one of those stamp sets to show some really cute cards I made.  I've also, on one of them, used an amazing DynamicTextured Impressions Embossing folder called Tin Tile.  The Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folders are a very deeply etched finish which I think many are going to love.  I've had mine for a while but finally 'christened' it, yay me!

Tip: when using the Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folders, remember they don't have the same 'sandwich' as regular embossing folders so do take some time to check out page 222 of the current annual catalogue where you will find listed the different sandwiches you'll need to know to make the most of your embossing folders!  I also found spritzing ever so lightly with an extremely light mist of water also helps to 'soften' card stock and not split it with such deep embossing folds. 

So here  you go, these are the cards I made, one is for my dear father, John, who starts his radiation treatment this Wednesday 24th, to try and 'kill' the cancer in his lungs.





On this card, I got a piece of sanding block and sanded the gold foil once I'd embossed it, I hope you can make that out.  I also layered over a piece of vellum that had been embossed too (sorry that's not on my product listing but it is the Petal Pair twin embossing folders found on page 223 of the current annual catalogue)

FF@F'o'clock'ish, 19th October 2018!

Hello and welcome back to another FF@F'ish,

long time no posting!

You know I've missed doing this, it's taken a while for me to get my head around letting go of what I can no longer control.  For those of you following me, my father's lung cancer can't be operated on but he is being booked in for radiation therapy as soon as possible.  It's a process and one that you can't hurry the powers that be along with. So we have to be patient.

In the mean time, I've been creating up a storm. Making 70 yes, seventy, swaps for an up and coming Stampin' Up!' live OnStage Local event happening in November down in Melbourne Australia.  I can't share with you yet what I've been making but trust me, on 13th of November, after the event, there will be a blog post go live with what I've made and instructions on how I've made them.  I've had fun putting them together and it's been rather 'theraputic' to get me creating again. To be honest, I'd lost my creative spark, my mojo as some may call it.  Making those swaps was just the ticket to pull me out of a terrible rut.  Soooooooooo without further waffling on, below is a video I made showing just how quickly it is to put together a card from one of Stampin' Up!'s amazing card kits.  Below this you will also see a close up of the card and links to my online store to purchase all products needed to do the same!   Enjoy!

A bit of this and a bit of that...

A personal post today.  I came back from my father's place last night. I'm extremely shellshocked to be honest and not just at the prognosis and treatment options.

I got to the middle of the day yesterday and I just had to leave.  I'm so saddened by the way my father's moods have suddenly swung from kind and considerate to ripping strips of anyone who's near him at home and anyone, any object, any thing on TV or in the news can send him into a massive tirade and at the top of his voice.  He's as sweet as sugar when he's out at any appointments but get him home and he turns like Jeckyl and Hide!

I finally had had enough and quietly said I think it's time I went home. Well not quite those words, but I was very quiet with what I said.  I packed everything up. Messaged my son who said to go on up to his FIL's house at Swansea (further north from Chain Valley Bay) and spend some time with them before I made the long maddening drive back into chaotic Sydney.  So I did.

My father has always had a bit of a short temper from what I've been told, but never have I been the brunt of it so much in such a short space of time.  I usually compensate for his behaviour because he is getting on, he is quite deaf without his hearing aids (or when he wants to be deaf) and he's got cancer.  Yes, stage 4 lung cancer which though they could operate and remove it, it isn't going to happen.  You see, Dad also has emphesyma. Because of that, they really can't remove the whole lower right lung lobe, they'd make his breathing and quality of life horrible and much shorter I believe.  He's going to be seeing a radiologist asap and has opted to have radiation therapy.  Now that's not without it's down sides. But the oncologyst said on Tuesday afternoon, there's three options, operate, radiation treatment or do nothing.

He said if they did nothing and took the wait and see approach Dad can't be given any time frame because it has grown some since first picked up on the scans. It's totally unpredictable.  So Dad's going to find out more information about the radiation treatment.  And I'll just have to knit him some soft beanies coz we know he'll loose his hair.  He's got one from a MND function held for my son's FIL (he's got motor neurons) but my father said it's too heavy on his head.  I did have to laugh at that because I thought I was the only one who thought beanies with pom poms on them were 'heavy' LOL

So I'm home, been fiddling about with computer software that needed upgrading, finally got my printer going again. It's been months since I could get it to print and you'd laugh at the so totally obvious reason I couldn't fix it. So thankful for the team at RIHAC Australia.  The fellow knew exactly what was wrong. Because I'm quite short, I couldn't see a certain tiny little plug that needed removing.  One Ikea step up later and yay, got that sucker off and bingo bango, I've re-primed all my ink cartridges and we are up and printing again.

So, there might be a FF@F'o'clock'ish post tomorrow, it depends on if I get all I have to get done first half of the day.  If not I'll work over the weekend on something.  There are so many gorgeous products available right now, my head's been spinning on what to choose to show you.
